Tree photo contest winners announced

Winners of the Norman Tree Foundation's second annual photo contest were announced Dec. 1.

The contest drew entrants from Norman to Clinton to Oklahoma City.

Winning photographs were required to be taken in Oklahoma and were judged by Charles Rushton, Bob Goins and Victor Koshkin-Youritzin, all of Norman. Joe Sparks and Phyllis Melton Dowling chaired the event.

The contest featured $1,200 in prizes and was in conjunction with the Norman Gallery Association's Dec. 1 Holiday Art Walk. Entries were on display Dec. 1-7 at Arvest Bank, Main Street and Peters Avenue.

Winners were:

Amateur black-and-white: first, John Eagleston, "Once a Place of Dreams"; second, Shyloh Cooper, "Stretching"; third, Janet Sherry, "Gingko Biloba in the Rain."

Amateur color: first, Janet Sherry, "Urban Forest in Winter"; second, Julie Kowalski, "Oklahoma Moonrise"; and John Wall, Tree of Gold.

Professional black-and-white: first, Rick Felty, "No Place Like Home"; second, Debra Van Swearingen, "Franklin Farm"; third, Theresa Bragg, "Quartz Mountain Serendipity."

Professional color: first, Drake Matney, "The Overseer"; second, Drake Matney, Natura Non Constrictatur"; third, Cindy Jain, Fletcher Magnolia.

Tree photo contest winners announced

Winners of the 2005 Tree Photo Contest sponsored by the Norman Park Foundation have been announced.

In the professional black and white division Sarah Brooks placed first and second with photos of Mt. Scott. Jenna McIntosh placed first in the professional color division with "First Fall in Norman."

Rick Felty's photos of Lake Thunderbird won second and third in the professional color category. Amateur black and white winners were first, David Byland with "Ghosts of the Parallel Forest"; second, "Winter Lace" by Gene Stewart; and third, LeAnna Pannell with "Story Trees."

Honorable mention was awarded to Leah Dile with "Bloom," Jim Long with "Hanging On" and Julianne Bragg, "Peeling Bark."

Amateur color winners were first, "A Priori," by Drake Matney; second, "Blushing Bride," by Janet Brennan Sherry; third, "Pastel Sunrise," by Jim Long, and honorable mention, "Yellow Glow," Theresa Bragg.

Organizers said 120 entries were received. They were exhibited at Arvest Bank and were judged by Victor Youritzin, Charles Rushton and Bob Goins. The first prize winners each received $175; second prize winners, $75; and third prize, $25.
